The old market town of Launceston dates back to Celtic times. The town is dominated by the Norman castle, built in the 11th century, which sits majestically on its mount in the heart of the town.
Launceston is the only walled town in Cornwall and was once home to the Royal Mint. The area is steeped in history, ancient architecture and historical features, it was described by John Bejetman as “the most rewarding inland town of Cornwall”.
Today Launceston is a thriving market town boasting numerous individual shops located in and around the town square.
